GETTING STARTED WITH GENERAL AVIATION FLYING

Learning to fly is a competency-based, achievement-oriented learning exercise; there is no doubt, it is a fantastic experience.

At Smartair, we understand our students have busy lives and learning to fly, competes for their time, attention and finances. 

Our experienced Instructors are extremely committed professionals whose aim is to work with you and create flexible schedules to enable you to learn in a supportive and aviation focussed environment.

Along with learning to fly, some administrative steps are also required to be undertaken and finalised.

Aviation Reference Number

An aviation reference number (ARN) is similar to an account or customer number and is required to progress many administrative steps.

ASIC Card

The Department of Home Affairs is Australia's security regulator for aviation and administers the Aviation Transport Security Regulations. Under those regulations, all current pilots must have an aviation security status check. You will also need an aviation security status check if you are applying for a flight crew licence.

Aviation Medical

CASA's Aviation Medicine branch is where applications for medical certification of pilots and air traffic controllers (ATC) are assessed. Information on these pages will help you if you are applying for a medical certificate. We suggest that you discuss which class of Medical suits your flying aspirations.
